Marilee Hanemann

This exhibit is a collection of my work from the last three years. I continue to hike in the Kanawha State Forest and use it as a place of refuge during stressful times. My favorite moments are in the early spring when I can rest in the sun and it feels like the first time I have ever been warm. I think it is the artist’s job to reflect experiences of the world back to others in order for them to gain a sense of connection. In my case nature is a reliable companion and source of healing.  It deserves reverence and protection and the chance to renew itself.

I tend to move back and forth between drawing from life/memory and drawing from a single moment captured by a photograph.  Sometimes a composition is dictated by a photograph that I fall in love with and sometimes using a photo becomes restrictive and I return to plein air and memory as my source. I hope you enjoy and feel inspired to reconnect.
