Ann Saville's Scone Recipe
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup butter
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/8 cup sugar
1 egg
Buttermilk to equal one cup
Mix together dry ingredients. Add 1 egg (beaten) to measuring cup, and buttermilk to egg to equal one cup total.
Mix dry and wet ingredients together, turn out and pat into 8" round.
Cut crosswise 4 times - Makes 8 scones. Bake at 400 degrees for appoximately 30 minutes.
For Fruit Scones: Add 3/4 cup fruit to dry mix before adding in egg/buttermilk mix.
For Savoury Scones: Leave out sugar from dry mix
