Annex Studios is a studio space, in Taylor Books, offering the community opportunities to create, learn, and experience the arts. We offer a variety classes for all ages and skill levels, curated workshops, and monthly ceramic memberships for more advanced participants who do not need guided instruction.

Ceramics 1 – Beginners Class 

The Ceramics 1, Beginners Class, will introduce students to the foundational knowledge of ceramic making. Students will experience the ceramic creative process from start to finish; ☻☺ Ball of clay → Finished work of ART ☻☺. This class will cover; what is clay?, essential clay concepts + terminology, exploration of a variety of hand building techniques; pinch pots, coils, slabs, and leading into an introduction to wheel throwing. Together we will explore the elements of art; line, shape, form, texture, space, value and color. Students can also expect to learn the ‘potter’s language’, clay care + maintenance, essential ceramic tools, studio safety and etiquette, surfacing techniques, glazing + finishing techniques, types of firing, and even a bit of ceramic history. Ceramics 1 is a 6-week class, designed to build the foundation of a student’s ceramic education and experience.

Ceramics 2 – Intermediate Class

The Ceramics 2, Intermediate Class, will build on concepts covered in our Ceramics 1, Beginners Course, with more advanced instruction.  Students will explore more technical concepts such as shrinkage calculations and glaze chemistry. Students will be encouraged to innovate and follow their own creative vision. Guided instruction at this level will be individualized, at times, to suit the needs of the student; whether they are pursuing wheel thrown functional ware or hand-built sculptures. Ceramics 2 is a month-long course, designed to continue your ceramic education and experience. The prerequisite to this course is our Ceramics 1 Class, or for folks who have excelled past a ‘beginner’ and still need guided instruction. ☻☺

Monthly Membership Details:

Annex Studios offers Monthly Memberships for ceramic artists who do not need instruction and wish to work independently.
